Singapore

My next step is Singapore.

I am an experienced Microsoft engineer and consultant, currently based in Switzerland, with a clear goal: to live and work in Singapore for the long term. My focus is Microsoft 365, identity, email security and automation.

Why Singapore feels like the next step

I have already spent several weeks living in Singapore, and I genuinely enjoyed being there. Its clean, modern surroundings, its international atmosphere and its tropical setting are a combination I find particularly appealing. Having so much of Southeast Asia within easy reach adds to that.

I have built a rewarding career and a good life in Switzerland. My ambition is to build on that foundation while moving towards the life I want in Southeast Asia. Singapore stands out as a place where I can continue doing challenging work, develop internationally and feel at home.

Having moved from Germany to Switzerland, I see Singapore as a deliberate next chapter: a place to contribute, grow and build a longer-term future.

What I can do for your team

Problems you could hand me on day one

Modernise the Microsoft environment

Exchange hybrid cleaned up and the last server switched off, devices moved from on-premises AD to Entra ID join with Intune and Autopilot, file servers to SharePoint.

Improve the security configuration

Conditional Access rolled out in phases, app registrations with least privilege, Defender for Office 365 policies that are tested, email authentication up to DMARC p=reject.

Solve problems to the root cause

The mail that goes missing sometimes, the device that hangs in setup, the policy that locks out partners. I look for the cause I can prove, not the workaround that makes the ticket close.

Automate recurring work

PowerShell and Microsoft Graph, scheduled jobs with logs and a way back, and software when a script is not enough. With a human approving what matters.

Explain, document, hand over

As a Microsoft Certified Trainer I explain decisions so that administrators, help desks and management understand them, and I leave runbooks behind, not just a closed project.

Own it afterwards

I like being responsible for a system or an outcome over time: improving it, measuring it and keeping it documented for the next person.

Three projects as evidence

What I did, not just what I know

Client work is anonymised. More cases, with the same structure, are on the proof page.

Migration

Exchange hybrid: lost mail, then the last server

Situation: after a partial migration, mail between on-premises and cloud mailboxes went missing, sporadically.

My part: traced it to a connector that took precedence and an outdated accepted domain; corrected routing addresses by script in phases (pilot, cloud-only mailboxes, everyone), each with backup and restore.

Result: stable mail flow, the cause documented, a runbook for the team, and a clear path to switching off the last Exchange server.

Security

Conditional Access without lockouts

Situation: after policies were tightened, partner companies could no longer reach shared Teams and SharePoint sites. Elsewhere, a break-glass account was excluded from every policy but could not have repaired anything.

My part: redesigned the policies for guest accounts with a test plan; built report-only deployment and a four-point break-glass check into the tooling.

Result: partner access restored, policies with a test plan and emergency access, and a near miss turned into a permanent check.

Automation

M365 Control Plane

Situation: an MSP running many tenants needed the same baseline everywhere, a record of every change and evidence beyond Microsoft's log retention.

My part: designed and wrote the platform: baseline as code, change evidence with content hashes, Maester audits, and PowerShell 7 jobs in Semaphore that get short-lived tokens instead of certificates.

Result: in production on two environments, my own server and Kubernetes with Argo CD at a Swiss Microsoft MSP.

Architecture and details

On my own initiative: DokAudit. A SaaS I built that makes PDFs accessible and proves it in veraPDF and PAC. A local layout model recognises the structure, an LLM only steps in on uncertain pages and is cross-checked against the page image. On a 1,181-page municipal budget, the veraPDF errors fell from 241,880 to 31 in one run, and the document was fully green after new font rules. It shows how I use AI: where it measurably helps, and checked where it does not. The case

What my European experience adds

A bridge between the team here and headquarters there

I have worked for clients in Germany and Switzerland, in occupational pensions, finance and wealth management, fiduciary services, industry, education, hospitality, healthcare and travel. Many of them had demanding stakeholders: regulated clients who had to prove their Microsoft 365 settings to a supervisor, data protection officers, management that wanted decisions in plain language.

Many Singapore teams report to a headquarters in Germany, Switzerland or Austria. I speak German natively and know how IT decisions are made and documented there. I can sit between the regional team and the IT department in Europe and explain each side to the other.

The role I am looking for

Three directions

  • Senior Microsoft 365 or security engineer: identity, Exchange and email security, hardening and automation in a team that runs real environments.
  • Hands-on Modern Workplace consultant or architect: designing and delivering Microsoft 365, Intune and Entra ID, and staying close to the implementation.
  • Regional workplace responsibility: owning the Microsoft 365 workplace for a region, for example for a European company's Asia-Pacific operations.

I am looking for a permanent position first. What matters to me is responsibility: for a system or an outcome, with room to automate and to build tools when they are the better answer, and direct contact with the people who use what I build.

Location and availability

Currently in Switzerland, ready to move

I live in Buchs ZH near Zurich and am ready to relocate to Singapore for the right role. As a German citizen I would need an Employment Pass, sponsored by the employer.

If you are building a team in Singapore and one of the problems above sounds familiar, I would be glad to talk.

Prepared for the local context

I have read up on what matters for my field here: CSA's Cyber Essentials recommends SPF, DKIM and DMARC, the Singapore Police Force warns about business email compromise, and MAS Notice FSM-N06 sets cyber hygiene requirements for banks. The details, with sources, are in my articles on DMARC and Cyber Essentials, business email compromise and MAS FSM-N06 and Microsoft 365.
